MHFA - Standard Mental Health First Aid Training Courses Brisbane
Mental Illness in Australia
Based on the survey conducted by the Australian Bureau of statistics in 2007, one in five Australian’s aged between 16 to 85, are suffering from some form of mental illness. The common mental illnesses are anxiety disorder, affective or mood disorder, and substance use disorders. Mental illness is very common and impacts on people's lives at different levels of severity.
Mental illness impacts on a person emotions, thinking, behaviour, motivation and interaction with other people. In some occasions people living with mental illness will not be diagnosed. This may also cause loss of home, isolation, deprived physical health, loss of employment, school dropout and stigmatisation. A lack of knowledge and discrimination about mental illness may cause people to avoid getting help early.
We all can expect to have close contact with someone experiencing a mental illness. Standard MHFA training will provide you information on how to assist a family member, colleague, friend with a mental health illness or in a crisis, until appropriate professional support and treatment is received or until the crisis is resolved.
