Practical knowledge in identifying, responding and supporting the individual
Mental Health First Aid Training Cairns
In any one year, one in five Australians aging between 16 to 85 are experiencing or developing a mental health condition, is very common. This forms the approximately the 7.3 million of Australians. In 2007 National Survey of Mental Health and wellbeing survey outlined that most common form of mental conditions are anxiety, affective or mood disorders, and substance use disorders. Mental illnesses ranked as the third biggest source of disease burden in Australia.
Mental health condition affects anindividual’s emotional state, thinking, behaviour and interaction with their families, friends, colleagues and the community. Not everyone living with mental health condition will be diagnosed. This could cause the individual loss of home, loss of income, social isolation from the family, friends and community, and poor physical health and wellbeing. Lack of knowledge, and awareness in mental health illnesses, scare of discrimination and isolation may cause individuals to avoid seeking help, and treatment early.
We all can expect to have close contact with someone experiencing, or developing a mental health condition. Standard MHFA training course will provide you information on how to assist a family member, colleague, friend who is going through difficult times due to their mental illness or going through crisis until professional assistance is received or the situation is resolved.
Based on the International MHFA guidelines, the content of the MHFA is developed in consultation with the mental health professionals, carers, consumer advocates and scholars written by the MHFA Australia.
